In my recent trip up to the Uinta mountains in Utah I found some black gooseberries or prickly currents. The scientific name is Ribes lacustre. They were not quite as sweet as the Thimbleberries I was picking at the same time, at least not at first but they were delicious nonetheless. Unfortunately positive identification came at the end of our visit to that spot and so I did not get to collect a lot of them. This is a choice berry to be collected for food and I highly recommend it. I also have read from multiple sources that any crowned berry is edible. A crowned berry is one that appears to have a crown on the tip of the berry. You can see this in the current berry pictures I provide for you here.
