Jason Hone, MSN, APRN, C-FNP

Holistic Health Provider • Primitive Skills Instructor • Wild Plant Educator
Jason Hone brings together two worlds that have long been connected throughout human history—the wisdom of nature and modern healthcare. As a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner, Jason has worked in a wide range of medical specialties since 1996, including emergency medicine, sports medicine, wilderness medicine, hospice care, pediatric medicine, and holistic family healthcare. His extensive clinical experience gives him a unique perspective on the relationship between the natural world, nutrition, lifestyle, and overall wellness.
Outside of the clinic, Jason has spent years studying traditional outdoor living skills and the practical knowledge that sustained people for generations. His passion for primitive technologies, wild plants, and self-reliance has led him to teach hands-on classes that reconnect people with the natural world. Whether demonstrating ancient fire-making methods, discussing the traditional uses of native plants, or exploring wilderness survival techniques, Jason enjoys helping students gain confidence through practical experience.
As an instructor with Wild Utah Edibles, Jason combines evidence-based medical knowledge with traditional ecological wisdom to create an educational experience that is both engaging and informative. His classes emphasize accurate plant identification, safe and ethical harvesting, wilderness awareness, and the historical uses of Utah’s native edible and medicinal plants. Students appreciate his ability to explain not only what a plant is, but why it has been valued throughout history and how it fits into a broader understanding of health and the natural environment.
Jason believes that spending time outdoors builds more than knowledge—it develops confidence, self-reliance, resilience, and a deeper appreciation for the landscapes we call home. Whether you’re completely new to foraging or looking to expand your outdoor skills, his approachable teaching style makes learning enjoyable for individuals and families alike.
When he’s not caring for patients or teaching classes, Jason continues to explore the outdoors, study traditional skills, and encourage others to discover the remarkable resources that nature provides. His goal is to help people reconnect with the land through education, curiosity, and responsible stewardship.
